Video Specialist – Capture

VIDEO SPECIALIST – CAPTURE

YOUR ROLE

You're the person who brings the pieces of a set together for the day of the shoot - lighting, setting up audio, framing shots, and capturing b-roll that tells a story. You'll own the front half of our video pipeline across teaching content, testimonies, and new product formats. You will also edit, but your primary home is on set.

The footage you capture impacts everything downstream. We're looking for someone who feels that weight and rises to it. You are technically disciplined, calm under pressure, and instinctively curious about people and environments. You stay up to date with current media and bring creative solutions to our planning and pre-production.

Primary Responsibilities – Capture

Assist in translating a pitch deck, concept, or animatic to a fleshed out plan for capture
Lead camera operation, lighting design, and audio setup for all shoot types
Assist with pre-production logistics: location scouting, gear lists, and communication with other members of the team
Capture b-roll with intentionality; return with coverage that gives editors options
Assist in maintaining, organizing, and caring for production gear
Ingest and organize footage with clear naming conventions and structure that meets our internal requirements for organization and collaboration

Secondary Responsibilities – Post

Rough-cut selections and assembly edits to aid handoff to an editor
Light finishing work and export for time-sensitive social posts or simple deliverables
Provide any notes for post-production color and editing when footage is transferred
When applicable, layout a rough plan for music and sound design that will inform the mood and pacing of an edit

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You Bring

2–4 years of professional video production experience, with documentary or interview work in your reel
Strong understanding of operating cameras and additional equipment
Strong command of lighting techniques and lighting equipment
Experience with Sony camera systems is a plus
Solid audio instincts - you know when a room sounds bad before you press record (and how to solve it)
Experience in Adobe Suite (Premiere and Audition are a must. Familiarity with After Effects is a plus)
A basic understanding of color grading in DaVinci Resolve (familiarity with editing in DaVinci is a plus)

A strong listener who can put interview subjects at ease
Adaptable - you solve problems that arise on set and help create a frictionless environment for maximum creativity and capture
Organized enough that your footage handoffs are a gift, not a headache
Willing to travel for stories, interviews, and events (2–3 events per year with the potential for additional travel with the team if needed)

The Team

You will join a growing team that includes a Video Manager and another Video Specialist (Post-Production). We are an integral part of the communications and storytelling we do as a Creative Team to further the mission of Desiring God.

As a ministry we are moving towards being “video first” in our communication channels. There is opportunity for growth and education as the team expands and covers new territories in mixed media and animation alongside various formats of video storytelling.
